Well, this first few weeks of school has kicked my butt! I am thanking all things holy for the weekend getaway we had to Cali before school started. Somehow, I saved one of my hardest quarters ever for my last term… and that includes the term I took 20 hours. I had no life because of the sheer amount of work I was doing, but I would take that over this term. 7 weeks left and I’ll be done though. Seven…. Seven…. Seven….. SEVEN!!!! (Friends, anyone??)

The winter rain has settled into Portland for what seems like the long haul. I shouldn’t complain too much since we have actually had a super mild and rather sunny winter! There is the added bonus of extended boot season and chilly weather clothes. And what goes with a preppy winter look better than a hot toddy?! So, I guess the rain isn’t sooooo bad… Gotta look at the bright side!

Other than school, not much else has been going on… boring I know. Nathan and I were late to the game but finally watched The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. It is an Amazon show, which you need to watch ASAP if you have Prime. It was so good we had to try and just watch one episode a night to make them last. It is rumored to have a season two which I pray happens but if it doesn’t the show ends on a good note. Not one to leave you completely hanging and begging for more. I mean, I do want more because of the amazingness of the show… not because I feel I have unanswered questions. Seriously, watch it!! In all our infinite free time, we also bought a MoviePass subscription! You pay a monthly or yearly fee and can go see as many movies as you want in theaters. I hope to see as many as possible. If not now… as soon as I am done with school!! This is going to be my year that I know what the hell people are talking about in the realm of pop culture and less academic garbage. HOORAY!

One of my 2018 goals is to get back to reading more for fun. I love, love, love to read… just not ANYTHING that is assigned to me in college. Last year, I pushed my reading list to the side because I felt like I had no time for it… or any brain energy left after trying to decipher what the hell Jean-Paul Sartre or Aristotle were talking about a million years ago. One of my favorite author’s, Brené Brown, came out with a new book at the end of last year called Braving the Wilderness: The Quest for True Belonging and the Courage to Stand Alone. If you have not read any of her others, you should, they are all amazing and more inspirational than I could explain. Here is one of the many things that rang true in my soul from her book:

“Stop walking through the world looking for confirmation that you don’t belong. You will always find it because you’ve made that your mission. Stop scouring people’s faces for evidence that you’re not enough. You will always find it because you’ve made that your goal. True belonging and self-worth are not goods; we don’t negotiate their value with the world. The truth about who we are lives in our hearts. Our call to courage is to protect our wild heart against constant evaluation, especially our own. No one belongs here more than you.” — Brené Brown.

I could quote the whole book but it would be easier for you to go read it. It is worth it on so many levels. January is almost over and Valentine’s Day is right around the corner!! I have a fun V-day cocktail recipe to share, my carry on essentials and how to effectively do Disney in a day!!! Lots up on the docket but for now, I am going to go workout and then binge watch the heck out of some Netflix on my day off.
